Critical Reflection

One of the goals I have set for myself in this module is to improve my oral presentation skills by overcoming my fear to speak in front of a huge crowd. Due to the lack of practice, I lost the opportunity to present my best and smoothly delivery the content I had intended to. A good presentation requires constant effort to practice. However, I was held up with other assignments and projects which left minimal time for me to work on my presentation.

The project’s oral presentation was a total disappointment as I was unable to conquer my fear of presenting in front of a crowd. I was too nervous to articulate my ideas smoothly, thus I mumbled through the presentation. After this experience, I realized the importance of maintaining a good posture and eye contact with the audience to keep the audience engaged. The use of visual aid should also be reduced to minimal to avoid confusion between my presentation and the content in it. Most importantly, I feel that despite not being able to conquer my fear, I made a significant improvement as compared to my last experience.

In conclusion, the journey from writing a report to presentation of our ideas to the audience was challenging yet fruitful. It also allows me to discover my weakness in writing and presentation skills. As quoted by Professor Blackstone, “the only way to improve is to fight the bull by it’s horn.”. I believe with more effort and constant practice I will soon be able to improve my oral presentation skill and build up my confidence to speak in front of a huge crowd.

  1. Dear Jun He,

I thought you did a good job during your presentation. You seemed confident and was able to articulate well. I think that a few pauses is still acceptable as standing up there facing all of us, we are bound to feel nervous. Glad to see all of us improving since the start of the module.

    Cheers,
    Zhouzhi

  2. Hello Jun He,

Setbacks do not determine one's failure. You may have made some mistakes during the presentation but I thought you did well in general! My first impression of you was a very quiet, reserved person and this changed when I saw your presentation in class. You are actually a very good presenter! People always say "Practice makes perfect" and i believe with the upcoming presentation throughout our course of study, we will grow to be better speakers. Cheer!

  3. Thanks, Junhe, for this reflection on your OP experience. From what I can tell, this reflection does not include the showcase presentation in which your team performed quote masterfully. It would have been interesting for us readers if you had pointed out the different feelings you had from the one presentation to the next.

I appreciate all your hard work this term. Best of luck as you continue your learning.
